Covid was not only a major health crisis in Australia, for young people and their families, the pressure-cooker of lockdown led to a tripling of enquiries to support services as kids fled difficult home environments.
First Tier worked with groups like Stepping Stone House in Sydney who were pushing with other sector allies like Y Foundations for the NSW state government to extend the age of state supported care from 18 to 21.
The ‘Make it 21’ campaign was ultimately successful, with the Perrottet government granting that request in November 2022, on the eve of the 2023 NSW election.
